Wolverhampton Summer League


League basics

These extracts are for guidance only.  The exact rules are stated in the current edition of the League Playing rules

Location
As this is not stated, the league is open to any club that can play matches against the other clubs that enter - generally from the area surrounding Wolverhampton.

Structure
The league season runs May to mid July, and is organised into 4 divisions.  All divisions have 5 boards per team.

  • Division 1: No grading limit.

  • Division 2: Each player must be graded 135 or less.

  • Division 3: Each player must be graded 110 or less.

    Every year since 1994, this division has been split geographically into 2 groups: The first comprising clubs to the North of the region, and second comprising clubs to the South of the region.

There is no promotion/relegation in the league.

Rate of play
30 moves in 60 minutes.  At the conclusion of black's 30th move, both clocks are wound back 15 minutes for a blitz finish.  All matches will finish on the evening of the match - no adjournements.
