The minutes of the inaugural meeting record:

"Minutes of meeting held on Thursday, March 16^th 1945 at 7.15 pm. in Marston Excelsior Canteen, Penn Rd., concerning the inauguration of Wolverhampton and District Chess League.

PRESENT:- Messrs. W.F.Guy representing Walsall Kipping Club; H.G.Owen. (W'ton Kipping Club); E.A.Oliver and A.Whitehouse, (Tipton); F.H.Harper and H.H.Jones (Cannock Chase); K.S.Rock and W.C.Smith, (Marston Excelsior); C.Mattox, (Henry Meadows); F.W.Bennett, (Municipal Secondary School).

After the above had been introduced by Mr Rock, Mr W.C.Smith was elected to the chair for the evening.

Representatives were unanimously in favour of commencing a W'ton & District Chess League.

It was proposed by Mr Guy, and seconded by Mr Harper and the entrance fee to the league be 5/- per team, per annum..."
