We meet in the bowling pavilion

The club has a small car park.  Please park at right angles to the bowling green, or parallel to the fence.  There are plenty of on-street spaces on St Albans Road.

Directions to the Stafford chess club

From the M6 exit at Junction 14
Follow signs to the A34, straight on at 2 roundabouts to Beaconside Road (signed to University and A518), 3rd Right into CommonRoad, signed to the football ground, second left into St Albans Road, signed to Household Waste Centre. The club is the second building on the Left and the car park is the first turning left.

From A449
It is quickest to join the M6 at junction 13 and exit at Junction 14 as above.

From the A34 North
Left at Redhill Roundabout, 3rd Right into Common Road, signed to the football ground, second left into St Albans Road signed as above.

From B5066
Turn right at Beaconside Road (towards M6) straight at the lights, then first left into Common Road as above.

From Lichfield
Keep on the A51 to Weston, left at the lights at Weston on to A518. After the University turn right at the roundabout signed to the M6 go straight at the next 4 lights then first left into Common Road as above.

From the A34 South
The easiest route is to go to the town centre.

From town centre
Take the B5066 (towards Sandon) from Gaol Square roundabout, keep straight on up Gaol Road, Marston Road and Common Road. First Right after the Common Road bridge into St Albans Road., signed to the Household Waste Centre. The club is the second building on the Left and the car park is the first turning left.


League involvement

Stafford have been involved in the Wolverhampton league since 1947. They have been continuously involved in the Cannock League since 2000.

In the Wolverhampton League, from 1947 to 1951 they played as Stafford Chess Club. In 1961-2 and again in 1963-5 they reapeared with the name English Electric (Stafford). In 1965 that name was changed to Stafford Chess Council. Since 1971, they have been known by their current name.
