Congresses and Tournaments held in Staffordshire

Congress basics

A chess congress is a tournament you enter as an individual.  Congresses are held in different parts of the country at various times of the year.  e.g. The Leek congress in September.

Entries are usually split into groups, where each group will have players of a similar grade.

During the tournament, you play opponents from your own group, and will be awarded points according to each result: 1pt for a win, ½ pt for a draw, and 0 for a loss.  As the tournament progresses, you will be matched against opponents with similar scores to your own.

You might find entry forms at chess clubs, other congresses, or on the Internet.
