This is an English Chess Federation Grand Prix event.

The venue

By Car
Stoke on Trent is near junction 15 of the M6.  Once in Stoke, the A53 takes you directly to Leek.

Public transport
There is a railway station in Stoke, and a regular bus schedule between Stoke and Leek.

Leek Chess Congress

A Stars Barred Congress with a difference,
for players graded under 210

This guide is simply intended to give you an idea of what to expect if you are interested in taking part the Leek chess Congress.  More details can be found on entry forms, or from Robert Milner (contact details in the right hand column).

Leek, Staffordshire.

Timetable

Friday Round 1 7.00 - 11.00 pm
Saturday Round 2 10.00 am - 2.00 pm
Round 3 2.45 - 6.45 pm
Sunday Round 4 10.00 am - 2.00 pm
Round 5 2.45 - 6.45 pm

Players can request a half point bye in any round except round 5.

Rate of play
Each player has 120 minutes to complete all their moves in each game.

How is its organised?
All entrants are listed in descending grading order and then placed into grading sections, with up to 36 players in each section.

Prizes.
1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes,
plus a slow starter prize.

Team Competition
For the 2009 Leek Congress there is a team competition, for teams of four who are bona-fide members of a club, with the best three to count.

Refreshments.
A selection of drinks and light refreshments, available during playing hours.
