Inter County Terriers Team (U120)
Team Captain: Denis Nesbitt
MCCU Under-120 Championship
Warwickshire 7½ - 4½ Terriers
Match played 7 January 2012 Moseley All Services club, Birmingham.
First report by Denis Nesbitt (Capt)
Not a good start to 2012, but nevertheless special mention should be given to Karthik Selvan who was last to finish and won against his more experienced higher rated opponent.
Also to David Barker who, likewise, won in his first ever match representing the terriers.
I’ve also added below a summary very kindly provided by Abby Sergeant, who attended as a reserve and cheerleader, so my gratitude extends to Abby and the rest of the team who gave up another Saturday afternoon in the name of Staffordshire chess.
Cheers
Denis
Report by Abby Sargeant (Club Sec for Meir)
The first match of 2012 with the Terriers was going to be a late start.
However, by 1.50pm and a full team for Staffordshire it looked like another promising win.
Into the first 20 minutes of play we had our first loss, followed by an unfortunate drastic game on the table behind.
The next hour proved interesting as I watched Fenton, Cheddleton, Newcastle and Cannock battle it out and take draws, wins and three losses against Warwickshire.
With the final two boards reaching a time of 4.45pm it was suitably a quick finish for both teams.
With tea, coffee and biscuits on offer in the next room, I could see most players needed revival whilst analysing their games.
Thanks to Pauline Woodward Warwickshire captain.
Bye for now
Abby Sergeant
