Inter County Terriers Team (U120)

Team Captain: Paul Clapham

MCCU Under-120 Championship

Terriers 5½ - 6½ Nottinghamshire
Match played 20 February 2010 at Newcastle Bridge Club, Newcastle-under-Lyme

Match report by Paul Clapham:
Another close match for the Terriers against Notts, with the Terriers losing by the closest of margins.  Wins for Karl Walklate of Fenton Chess Club, Danny Torbica of Cannock St Mary’s Chess Club, Derrick Jones and Richard Mansell both of Newcastle Chess Club took the match to a tense finish.  With two games left to finish the score was tied at 5 each.  Unfortunately the Terriers could only pick up another half-point and lost by the narrowest of margins 6½ to 5½.

We now look forward to the match against Warks on the 13th March.

My thanks to the players, Ric Dawson the Notts Captain and John Day, who set up the room and boards.

Regards Paul Clapham

TOTALS

Twice in two years, the Terriers have reached the National quarter finals.  Last season they fought Kent, the season before they played Suffolk.  Since last season, the ECF have revised the grades of all players, so player who were graded around 90 last year, might now find themselves with a grade of around 115.  Because of that revision, the grading limit for the team has been raised to U120 this season.

Matches are played on Saturday afternoons, with no adjournments.  If you are interested in playing, I'm sure Paul would be pleased to hear from you.  Please get in touch - contact details in the left hand column.
