Inter County Bulldogs Team (U120)
Team Captain: David Buckley.
MCCU Under-120 Championship
Bulldogs 8½ - 3½ Worcestershire
Match played 27 February 2010 at Bushbury, Wolverhampton
The Worcestershire team arrived for today's match three players short.
With that advantage to start with, wins for both John Fenby and Tony Colabella, and a draw for Peter Evans brought the Bulldogs to within a point of victory.
Less than a week ago, one of our players - Steve Micklewright beat Charlotte Wilcox-Banks (grade 157) in a tough league game.
Today, he came back to reality with a bump.
Along with victory against Steve, Worcestershire secured two more wins.
The Bulldogs were still after that elusive point.
On board 9, Paul Guest was already a rook ahead.
He exchanged one rook for a knight and rook, and then used his bishop and rook to mop up his opponents 3 connected past pawns.
Paul's win secured victory for the team.
Ken May gave them another win, leaving just Paul Jackson's interesting endgame against Maureen Clark to finish.
The match finished with an 8½ - 3½ win for the Bulldogs.
That leaves the Bulldogs still top in the MCCU section, with just the match in Nottingham to finish the regular season.
Well done to David Buckley and all the players.
Good Chess!

David has now been running this successful team for several years.
Since last season, the ECF have revised the grades of all players, so player who were graded around 90 last year, might now find themselves with a grade of around 115.
Because of that revision, the grading limit for the team has been raised to U120 this season.
Matches are played on Saturday afternoons, with no adjournments.
