I confirm the result 9½ - 6½ in favour of Surrey.
My thanks to Owen Phillips of Surrey for the splendid arrangements for the Match at Oxford and the great tea he laid on.
The match was played in a good spirit and it was good to see so many strong players turning out.
We were almost at full strength and Surrey fully deserved to win.
It is due time for Surrey to win the Counties Championship again - they are clearly a vibrant County and do more than their fair share to support English Chess!
I wish them all the very best in the Final.
My thanks to my team for their magnificent support this year particularly to the Reserves who have loyally stood by until the last moment.

A famous victory for Staffordshire.
David Anderton has been playing for Staffordshire since 1958, and commented that he cannot remember such an emphatic victory over Warwickshire.
He also mentioned Notts have now defaulted their postponed match, so for the second successive year, Staffordshire are the Midlands Open Champions.
The national quarter finals are due to be held on 21st May, where Staffordshire will face the nothern counties (NCCU2 team).
