Inter County Bulldogs Team (U120) 2009/10
Team Captain: David Buckley
ECF Inter-Counties Under-120 Championship
Bulldogs 4 - 8 Lancashire
Match played 22 May 2010, at Newcastle Bridge Club
Being the last game to finish, I didn't see much of the other games.
Simon Jones enjoyed a good game which finished with a draw.
From what I could see, many of the other games were also very good - depite the results.
Well done to all the players who have been part of the team this season, and good chess to Steve Fanning and the Lancs team in the semi-finals.

Bulldogs 8½ - 3½ Worcestershire
Match played 27 February 2010 at Bushbury, Wolverhampton
The Worcestershire team arrived for today's match three players short.
With that advantage to start with, wins for both John Fenby and Tony Colabella, and a draw for Peter Evans brought the Bulldogs to within a point of victory.
Less than a week ago, one of our players - Steve Micklewright beat Charlotte Wilcox-Banks (grade 157) in a tough league game.
Today, he came back to reality with a bump.
Along with victory against Steve, Worcestershire secured two more wins.
The Bulldogs were still after that elusive point.
On board 9, Paul Guest was already a rook ahead.
He exchanged one rook for a knight and rook, and then used his bishop and rook to mop up his opponents 3 connected past pawns.
Paul's win secured victory for the team.
Ken May gave them another win, leaving just Paul Jackson's interesting endgame against Maureen Clark to finish.
The match finished with an 8½ - 3½ win for the Bulldogs.
That leaves the Bulldogs still top in the MCCU section, with just the match in Nottingham to finish the regular season.
Well done to David Buckley and all the players.
Good Chess!

Terriers 5½ - 6½ Bulldogs
Match played 14 November 2009 at Newcastle Bridge Club, Newcastle, Staffs
A tie between these teams meant that many of the players taking part have become very familiar to each other.
New to the Bulldogs team for their visit to the home of the Terriers was Phil Nicholls from Mercia, making his inter-county debut.
One or two other late changes to the team meant it included Guy de Visme - who should be very familiar to anyone involved with corresponence chess.
My game finished after just an hour.
As the games finished, there was never more than just a point difference between the teams.
With just 2 games still playing, the scores were level at 5 - 5.
With just one game to go, and the familiar huddle of players crowding around, the Bulldogs had a 6 - 5 lead.
The Bulldogs player had a bishop and 4 pawns, against knight and pawn.
The Bulldogs player moved his undefended bishop from d7 and then went to the bathroom.
He came back to find he'd lost the piece anyway - his move had left it en-prize to the "h" pawn.
Just 3 moves later, the players agreed a draw, winning the match for the Bulldogs.
To save any embarrassment, I've avoided indicating who those players were.
Everyone seemed to have a good time.
Well done to all the players on both teams.
Thanks go to Paul Clapham and all the Terriers team for making everyone welcome, and special thanks to Martyn Harris for setting everything up to start with.
Thank you!
