Staffordshire County Tournaments 2008/9

For the Withnall trophy, clubs from the north will be paired (at random), against clubs from the south.  When there are no clubs remaining in one group, any remaining clubs from the other group will be paired against each other.  For the other cups, pairings will be drawn at random from all the clubs taking part in each event.

If you have any thoughts or comments, please get in touch with Graham Humphreys.  Tel: 01384 571486
Grades will be taken from the ECF's official 2008 list.

If required, Stafford Chess Club should be available as a neutral venue.

Match report by Paul Clapham:
Newcastle chess club welcomed Warley Quinborne for the quarter final of the Withnall Cup.  The match shared facilities at Newcastle Bridge Club with the Newcastle Mini-Congress organised by Martyn Harris, making for a warm, friendly atmosphere.

John Pakeman won the toss for Warley Quinborne who played white on the odd boards.  The match was tied at 2.5 to 2.5 with Warley Quinborne winning on board count.  All the best to John and his team in the semis.
