Nominations

Nominations for either the Club of the year trophy, or the Player of the year trophy can be sent in at any time.  Nominations should be sent in writing, with a brief explanation of why the nominee should receive the trophy.

Staffordshire County Tournaments

Team tournaments
There are 4 team tournaments, all run on a knockout basis.  The first round starts in October, with the final held in April.  Rate of play is 30 moves in 65 minutes, with a 20 minute quickplay finish.  Full tournament rules can be found here.

Congratulations to Stafford, 2008 Club Champions of Staffordshire.

Hickman Trophy
This is the club Championship of Staffordshire.  Each team has 6 players, and there is no grading limit.

Stafford are the current holders.

Jackson Cup
This is for teams of 5 players, with each player graded 120 or under.

Lichfield are the current holders.

Club of the year trophy
The Club of the year trophy is awarded in June, to the club judged to have done most to help further the interests of chess in Staffordshire.  Details on how to nominate a club are shown in the left hand column.

Gothard Cup
Second only in status to the Hickman, this tournament is for teams of 5 players, with each player graded 150 or under.

Boldmere are the current holders.

Withnall Trophy
This is for teams of 5 players, with each player graded 100 or under.

Player of the year trophy
The Player of the year trophy is awarded in June, to player judged to have done most to help further the interests of chess in Staffordshire.  Details on how to nominate a player are shown in the left hand column.

Basics

These events are organised and run by the SCA (Staffordshire Chess Association) for the benefit of local players and clubs.

If your club is based in Staffordshire, or is involved in either the Wolverhampton League, the North Staffs League, or the Cannock League, it can enter a team in one or more of the team tournaments.

All eligible clubs should automatically receive an entry form around August/September each year.
