The pages of this website are here to help introduce and promote the county cups tournament.  They include lists of past winners and results of past tournaments.

The Staffordshire county cups are for teams of players.  There are four separate tournaments, with each one being run on a knockout basis.  The first round starts in October, teams then progress round by round with the finals being held in May.  Below is a summary of each tournament.

Hickman Trophy
This is the club Championship of Staffordshire.  Each team has 6 players, and there is no grading limit.

Jackson Cup
This is for teams of 5 players, with each player graded 140 or under.

Club of the year trophy
The Club of the year trophy is awarded in June, to the club judged to have done most to help further the interests of chess in Staffordshire.  Details on how to nominate a club are shown in the left hand column.

Gothard Cup
Second only in status to the Hickman, this tournament is for teams of 5 players, with each player graded 160 or under.

Withnall Trophy
This is for teams of 5 players, with each player graded 120 or under.

Player of the year trophy
The Player of the year trophy is awarded in June, to player judged to have done most to help further the interests of chess in Staffordshire.  Details on how to nominate a player are shown in the left hand column.

These events are organised and run by the SCA (Staffordshire Chess Association) for the benefit of local players and clubs.

If your club is based in Staffordshire, or is involved in either the Wolverhampton League, the North Staffs League, or the Cannock League, it can enter a team in one or more of the team tournaments.

All eligible clubs should automatically receive an entry form around August/September each year.
